at the daar almakhTuutaat opposite the great mosque in sana'a. the size of the manuscript collection well exceeds 10,000 -- a great deal of which hasn't yet been catalogued. the collection is the location where a german codicologist and qur'anic scholar discovered an early qur'an that varied slightly from the edition we have today. the differences are so small -- only an expert would be able to detect the differences -- yet these slight variations have been the continued subject of academic and religious contention in yemen.
