the notorious "statees", waiting at the fundeq. from left to right: jacob, paul, jon, chris, zeba, patrick, emilie, ailya, allison, noah, gerard
********

kicking it with ailya at the homestead.

meanwhile, on the other side of the room, my roomate threatens us with a traditional jambiyah.
********

the view from matt's room nearby.
********

our tv + mosque alarm clock. i think that's a famous zhonghuarenmingongheguo minister on aljazeera.
********

a nearby cinema, no longer in use. it seems hard to find an active movie theatre in sana'a.
*********

see paul eating this salta on my video here.
salta. this is the lunch that sizzles. rice, greens and meat. always boiling in a huge pot at the front of the salta-joint. always tastes good. you eat this before chewing qat.
*********

fresh bread to dip in the salta.

"the oldest flavor, the newest flavor"
on the left is mareb brand of cigarettes. on the right is the ruins of the queen of sheeba temple. i guess the columns are supposed to look like cigarettes. by the way, ma'areb was the site of the attack on the spanish tourists last week.
*********
i'm an addict for sneakers...
*********
not something you could ever find on a street corner in damascus. gun holsters, ak clips, and bayonettes. a 9 year old kid on summer vacation was selling these wares further down our street, next to the sneaker shop.
*********

um. he was showing me the ak clip and the bayonette.
********
a late night soccer game in front of our homestead. half-deflated soccer ball, muddy field and good friends.
********
the sa'il, a main road that becomes a river during monsoon season. kindof the border between old city and new city. some friends of mine moved into a spot on the right.
**********

down my street. the lights celebrate a neighbor's marriage.
